M-A-Bukhari

M.A Bukhari

Mohammad All Bukhari has emerged as a powerful landscapist, calligrapher and semi-abstract compositionist. A former student of Rabia Zuberi's Karachi School of Art, Bukhari has beautifully branched into a consummate impressionist during his 2 years training in Rome's Albuman School of Arts. Well known for the use of bright colors which make his works prominent, his brush strokes on the canvas speak of his mastery and facility in painting. A short association with the Late Ismail Gulgee has significantly turned him into a colorist in a style that seems to strike as an artist extension of Gulgee and it is hoped that is would help Bukhari develop that style and technique further in the days to come. The impasto method of dealing with oil color layers, thickly and densely daubed on canvas with palette knife has been deftly employed, clearly showing that his Italian training has strongly shaped his vision in innovating a color playthat is firming up creatively and masterly. In order to give a visual impact of his individualistic Arabic calligraphy in "Ism-E-Azam" compositions, Mohammad Ali Bukhari has designed a scalpel-like pen so that he can engrave letters into layers of oil color. This technique has paid off well, each work acquires sharply delineated aesthetic-decorative depth and swell each letter and work as a whole, making his "Ism-E-Azam" more enjoyable for those who relish grace and beauty of Arabic script.
