Babar Azeemi belongs to the school of Sadequain and Gulgee, successful self-taught artists who worked constantly for the sheer joy of painting. In Azeemi’s work one discovers an imaginative world combining the beauty of a traditional culture freely expressed with the innovations of contemporary media and style. The artist takes as his theme a woman dressed in the mode of heroines of the Mogul Schools of Art. Often Babar’s subject is accompanied by a bird, perhaps the bearer of a love letter.
Gazing at the artist’s paintings, the viewer begins to invent a personal narrative encouraged by the suggestion of noble architecture and by the graceful dress and jewelry of the subject. The diverse textural elements and fluid brush strokes create the signature style of the artist.
