As a practicing artist, Professor Dr. Rahat Naveed is best known for luminous portrait studies and nature inspired expression, often in the medium of pastels. One of the chief exponents of the pastel medium in Pakistan, she has developed a unique style of using pastels with gold leaf on hand made paper. This innovation stems from a desire to combine her training in western style with her interest in the abstractedness of the Muslim aesthetic.
The artist obtained a PhD in Studio Practice from London, taking as her theme a subject inspired by the artist’s intensive research into the nature and philosophy of Sufism in Pakistan. Materializing the Spirituality that cannot be described in words.
A scholar and researcher in her own right the professor has presented and published numerous papers on art. She is the recipient awards namely The Presidnt’s Pride of Performance (2013) The Fatimah Jinnah National Award The Council of the Arts prize for ‘Outstanding Work. Artists’ Association of Punjab Award for ‘Significant Work.’
