Ali Azmat was born in Multan in 1973. His innate skills were inexplicable to his early years in an agricultural society, but eventually led him to the Punjab University where he earned a M.F.A. as a Gold Medalist in 1998. Since then the artist has shown his work in solo exhibitions and group displays, earning awards in the process. Ali Azmat’s talents were soon recognized by way of awards. He won second prize from the Lahore Art’s Council annual art student’s exhibition held in 1996, and an award of excellence from the Punjab Artist’s Association at their 14th annual exhibition in 1999.

In 2003, he was the recipient of a National Award of Excellence conferred by the Pakistan National Council of the Arts. Currently a faculty member of the Punjab University, the artist’s work has been shown nationally and internationally to great acclaim.
