Wahab Jaffer started painting in the seventies, when he practiced and painted with icons of Pakistan’s art history: Ali Imam, Ahmed Parvez and Bashir Mirza. There was a great deal of warmth between artists in those days, genuine respect and regard that strengthened their largely unappreciated and often difficult lives. Jaffer’s first solo exhibition was held in 1981, at the Indus Gallery. Since that time his fascination with paint and canvas has been the predominant factor of his life.
Eschewing references to actuality Jaffer’s canvases create a dazzling, mood enhancing, visual experience that takes the observer beyond the minutia of day-to- day life.
He is an artist who takes enormous pleasure viewing the fine work of other artists, and his private collection acquired over decades he regards as his `history’. His work has been exhibited widely to great appreciation.
