Amin-Gulgee

The recipient of the President’s Pride of Performance in 2006, Amin Gulgee graduated from Yale University in 1987. and determined to make his life in art. He began to experiment with metal sculpture analyzing diverse aesthetic forms, unifying them with his own creative insight. His first solo exhibition was held in Karachi in 1988. He returned to the USA and he began to work on a collection of wearable art pieces. In the process he decorated the walls of the studio with discarded metal pipes. This proved to be the first of a series of murals he was to create from discarded and found objects.

Amin Gulgee has participated in numerous group shows in Pakistan, enlivened fashion displays and contributed to VASL activities. In 2011, the Amin Gulgee Gallery hosted an important event in coordination with SPARK – Space for Pan-African Research Creation and Knowledge. Since then Amin has mounted exhibitions of his work internationally.
